Humpday Highlights: Directing the Dead

This week's Humpday Highlights presents Directing the Dead: Genre Directors Spill Their Guts: a meeting of some of the most sick and twisted minds making some of the most outrageous, frightening, and innovative horror movies out there.

SXSW threw together a bunch of dudes who not only LOVE horror movies, but just happen to have made some of the best ones of the past decade. Matt Reeves directed invasion creature feature J.J. Abrams production Cloverfield and helmed the upcoming Let Me In. Neil Marshall, of the astounding The Descent and SXFantastic Super Secret TBD screening Centurion, joins relative newcomers Ti West (House of the Devil) and Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) in the discussion. And of course, Austin, Texas favorite son Robert Rodriguez, of Sin City, Desperado, half of Grindhouse, and this weekend's Machete, throws his hat into the ring.

Excited yet? Or grossed out? Check out the first two clips as the filmmakers talk with Scott Weinberg (managing editor of Cinematical and film critic for FEARnet.com). The first clip above features some interesting tidbits about all the directors.

This second video has the filmmakers sharing their views on the current trend of remakes, with the initial question being posed to Reeves, whose remake of the critically-acclaimed Swedish film, Let the Right One In, titled Let Me In opens October 1.

Stay tuned to the SXSW blog in the next week for more video clips and a full podcast.
